It has been a long absence from these pages. New city, house hunt, job hunt. I am sure you have pretty much of an idea of how much time and energy it takes to start a new life elsewhere. I don’t know if you ever experienced the feeling of not having a home anywhere, of being precarious all the time –a constant guest. I felt a little bit like that in the past three weeks. We stayed in a studio first, then at friends’. It hasn’t been easy or fun, on the contrary, it was pretty tiring and stressful, let alone expensive.
Anyway, during these weeks, we gratefully managed to find jobs, and also a little place to call home –a place where we can finally drop our four suitcases and start building our life. It is a one bedroom apartment in Wimbledon Park, far enough from the madding crowd, but close to all we need. So yes, we managed to go through all of it and we are slowly settling down.
Free time has dropped dramatically since when I started working, but I am enjoying my new job a lot and I am learning something new every day. It is challenging and I like it especially for this. I am cheesemonger: I work with cheese all day, cut, slice, give suggestions, take care of a humid and cold cheeseroom filled with the best selection of cheeses from the UK, France, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and of course Italy. It might not sound that appealing, but it is the perfect continuation of my studies and my working path, and I am happy with what I found. It is a starting point, and we’ll see where I’ll be able to go from here.
As you might figure, cooking activities has been neglected to the point of feeling sorry for ourselves — mainly due to the fact that we were living in a studio with two burners and a microwave and we were always either tired or in a hurry. Salads, cooked grains, big breakfasts with muesli and fruit, that’s it. Anyway, we managed to keep ourselves in a good state of health, and once we are settled we will go back to our habits and spend more time in the kitchen, especially during days off.
In the meantime, we have been taking long walks at the park and enjoying this strangely warm Londoner springtime. Hyde Park is beautiful in this season, filled with people enjoying outdoor time, blooming magnolias and cherry trees. I had no idea London could look so pretty. But it does.

Stiamo iniziando a mettere piccole radici.
