Fancy a nice and sweet dessert or snack, but don't know which one? You can't do anything wrong with an apple cake! Follow this easy apple cake recipe for a European-style apple cake which is very easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 7/8 cup butter (200 g), cut in blocks
  • 1 cup white sugar (200 g)
  • 2 5/8 cup flour (300 g)
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • juice of 1/2 lemon (optional)
  • 2 apples, peeled and sliced thinly
  • Icing sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven at 350 F (175 C).
  2. Mix butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, and lemon juice.
  3. Grease a 9-inch (24cm) springform pan or a 9-inch (24cm) cake pan.
  4. Spoon batter into pan.
  5. Cover with apple slices in a circle pattern.
  6. Bake for 45 mins at 350 F (175 C) or until cake has golden color and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cool before serving.
  8. Sprinkle with some icing sugar when serving.

Notes

  • The ideal number of apples depends on their size: 4 small ones, 3 medium ones, or 2 large ones.
  • When during baking the apples brown too much, you can cover the cake with aluminium foil.
